Korean Language Education for Foreigners

We teach Korean in Korean so learners can speak the most practical, real-world Korean.
  • Riding the growing global boom in learning Korean, Korea’s leading public broadcaster KBS (Korea Broadcasting System) commissioned its in-house Korean language and culture institute, the KBS Korean Language Promotion Institute, together with the Korean Language Society and the education publisher Hyungseul EMJ, to create "KBS Practical Korean for Foreigners," a suite of online video courses and professional textbooks.
  • "KBS Practical Korean for Foreigners" is designed to make learning Korean—and understanding and experiencing Korea—as straightforward as possible. It is the only online video program that truly covers the full journey from beginner to advanced. Just as BBC English represents English learning and NHK Japanese represents Japanese, KBS Korean is the representative content for learning Korean.

Course structure

Topic

Presents the unit theme and learning objectives, and guides learners to study and consolidate vocabulary, grammar and expressions, and pronunciation.

Grammar and expressions

Covers grammar related to the theme and integrates it with everyday conversational situations so learners can use the language naturally in context.

Vocabulary

Designed for learning and practicing vocabulary related to the theme, focusing on natural, everyday words rather than difficult terms.

Pronunciation

Covers real-life pronunciation that differs from the written form, including changes that occur when final consonants (batchim) are involved.

Content format

An online video learning program designed to help learners study Korean in the easiest, most systematic way.
"KBS Practical Korean for Foreigners" is organized into three levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—with 35 to 48 online video lessons per level. Learners can select the level that fits their ability or study sequentially from beginner through advanced. A separate textbook is available for each level; using it alongside the video content is highly effective, but the online videos are designed to be fully sufficient for study even without the textbook.
